The 7-Day Wellness Challenge: Wellness Tip #1 (The One Tip You Probably Never Thought Of)

salad-374173__180 Welcome to our 7-Day Wellness Challenge. Each day for 7 days, you will receive a Simple Wellness Tip that Will Silence Your Inner Critic and Rock Your World!
Wellness Tip #1: Try One New Food This Week.

One you haven’t ever tasted before. Or, a food you think you don’t like but haven’t tried for years! This may require a little creativity. A little sleuthing. You may even have to try hard to convince yourself.

Look for one that leans toward the healthy side. Preferably a veggie or fruit, but doesn’t have to be.

Just one food that you thought you might never be willing to try but are now ready to venture out and give it a whirl!

You see, our taste buds change every 28 days. That means that we might like it!

And, the more healthy foods we have to choose from in our daily eating, the more likely we are to eat healthy foods.

In fact, let’s make this a fun weekly practice. Try one new food each week. Give the food a real chance, but if you don’t like it, no harm done. Just move on to the next one!

And, enjoy eating. Healthy food that actually tastes good!

The Experiment: Go to the store and pick out at least one new food. Put it in your grocery cart. Head home. Add it to your menu. And eat it with an open mind and taste buds. Mindfully. Savoring every bite. (I’m going to try Goji berries. I’ll let you know what I think!)

Wellness Tip #1: Try One New Food This Week.

Silence Your Inner Critic: Your thoughts will try to convince you that a new food will only taste terrible. Step back behind that thought. Give it a little chuckle. Ignore, forget or even thank it for its opinion. But, then do the experiment anyway. You can’t believe everything you think.

Rock Our World with Your Comments: What was the new food you discovered? Write your thoughts in a personal journal, discuss with a friend or family member, or post a comment below. We thrive and grow with your input!

Here’s an update on my Goji berries! I’m actually starting to look forward to eating them. It is truly amazing how my taste buds have already adjusted to the new food with glee! So, go for it! Let me know what new food you have tried, and how it tasted!

My husband and I had a vegetable medley of zucchini, yellow squash, baby carrots and blue lake green beans. All that I’d had before were the carrots…and maybe the green beans(these were very crispy and unusual looking but good.). As a child I decided never to like squash….maybe it’s just the word, but I never ate it. It was ok! My husband liked the zucchini better but I liked it ok too. Now we have also tried skinless, citrus chicken…seared and slow cooked. It did NOT look like chicken….but like brown rubber!! Wasn’t sure about tasting it. But, inside, the meat was white and delicious! Can’t believe it

I never liked yellow squash or zucchini either as a child. Now, they are some of my favorite veggies! Taste buds change and we learn that if we give them a chance! So glad you enjoyed your veggie medley!

So, I got my goji berries yesterday and had some with my oatmeal this morning. My first taste was “so-so.” They left a slightly bitter aftertaste. I much prefer my blueberries! But, I know that I need to give my taste buds a chance to adjust. I’ve been eating blueberries for years, so of course I love them! Several bites later, I admit that goji berries are not yet my favorite, but a little better than the first bite. My plan is to eat them daily for this 7-Day Wellness Challenge. I’ll give you an update then!

Today I tried a fresh apricot! I’ve always just had the dried ones (which are great), but for the first time I bought some fresh apricots. Absolutely so delicious! Had no idea they were so sweet!

I used to eat apricots off my neighbor’s tree when I was a little girl. They are delicious!
