The 7-Day Wellness Challenge: Wellness Tip #6 (The Prayer that Has Changed My Life)

woman-571715__180

Welcome to Day #6 of our 7-Day Wellness Challenge. Each day for the next 2 days, you’ll receive a Simple Wellness Tip that Will Silence Your Inner Critic and Rock Your World! (If you’ve missed some of the Wellness Tips this week, feel free to go back and read the previous blogs.)

Wellness Tip #6: Embrace “How Great God Is and How Grateful I Am.”

I’m not sure exactly when or where I first heard these words. I do know that they have truly changed my life.

You see, so much of the time we make a prayer all about us. About everything we need and want. About how to change others whom we think need changing so that our lives will be less-stressed. About why our particular circumstance is worthy of a complete overhaul. If we just had had more compassionate friends, a more loving family, improved health, a better job, bigger house, happier children, etc.

Our other alternative would be to make prayer about God. About being thankful. About counting our blessings. Trusting that our needs are always met. Remembering that we actually have friends, family, a job and shelter.

For me, this prayer, “How Great God Is, and How Grateful I Am,” brings me out of my never-ending land of demands and wants to the limitless higher land of Spirit.

A place where I remember who I am, why I am here, and whom I serve. No longer am I the forefront of the prayer. I get my priorities straightened out. My mood always improves. My faith is recharged. And, I am ready for the next step of life.

The Experiment: Write out these words “How Great God Is and How Grateful I Am” on a paper that you put by your bed. Let these be the first words out of your mouth in the morning when you wake up, and the last words before you go to sleep. Add to the prayer several things you are truly thankful for. Finish it with a smile. Try this for one week, twice daily. See if it doesn’t change your life as well.

Wellness Tip #6: Embrace “How Great God Is and How Grateful I Am.”

Silence Your Inner Critic: You may think that this simple experiment won’t really pay off, or that you already try to remember your blessings. Just do the experiment anyway! With quiet awareness and determined discipline. There’s never a need for your thoughts to derail your joy!

Rock Our World with Your Comments: What were some of the blessings that you found you were most thankful for? Write your thoughts in a personal journal, discuss with a friend or family member, or post a comment below. We thrive and grow with your input!
