This is the 4th Wellness Tip in our 8-part weight loss series that began 3 weeks ago and will continue for the next 5 weeks. These tips confirm you don’t have to be hungry in order to lose weight.
Wellness Tip #4: Shop the perimeter of the grocery store.
This week, we will be heading to the store with our prepared weekly food menu. Let’s plan to shop mostly along the perimeter of the store. This is the area where the healthier foods usually reside.
The Experiment: When you arrive at the store, head straight to the produce section which is likely along the perimeter of the store. Buy plenty of fresh fruits and veggies as you have detailed in your food plan.
Second, find the area of the store where the raw nuts are sold. Often, this is close to the produce section. Buy a variety of raw nuts, even ones that you haven’t tried before!
Finish the rest of your shopping along the perimeter, spending very little time in the center of the store. The center is typically where less healthy packaged products are displayed. Ones that tend to be high in added sugars, salt, trans fats, and chemicals.
Check your list before you leave. Avoid any last minute purchases at the register. You will have found that your plan has likely saved you money as well as needless calories from last minute purchases.

Silence Your Inner Critic: You would prefer to shop as you have done in the past. Venturing out with a meal plan full of healthier foods seems a little overwhelming. Take a deep breath and give the experiment a chance. Change is good, and change is possible. You can do this!
